Radio Device for Localisation

Design of a radio device for the monitoring and localisation of boats during a challenge

During the 2006 Julius Baer boat challenge, the MIS Institute designed a radio device to remotely monitor and locate up to fifty boats. The project was renewed in 2013 by the company Y-Lynx Sàrl to promote radio devices.

The device is equipped with a GPS and a radio unit and sends GPS data every second – position, speed, direction and universal time. The data are collected remotely for every boat of the challenge, and are sent to a database. Data are then published on a web server, allowing users to have a real-time display of the boat's roads.

The company Y-Lynx Sàrl plans to develop the project further on and design a lighter solution with high precision, down to 10 centimeters.
